Anchorage Lions Checkpoint at Kenai Lake for the Alaska Ride for Life, Sunday June 30, 2013. Supporting volunteers: Lions Bob and Mary as well as Robert Smith. The two day ride to Seward raised approximately $60,000 to help individuals of limited financial means get screening and testing for colorectal cancer. The goal is make sure that mortality from the disease in Alaska is totally eliminated.

Fireweed Checkpoint at Mile 25, supporting cyclists in the 100 and 200 mile races. Twelve of our members and friends worked the checkpoint: Lion Bob, Lion Colette, Eileen and Boyd Moring, Robert Smith, Lion Jim and Ellie Magaowan, Lion Bjarne and Robin Holm, Greg and Susan MacDonald as well as Lion Craig and Pat Kauffman. Race note: Lion Bjarne participated in the 50 mile road race, one of several different races offered in the event. Lion Bjarne diced back and forth with a couple of older cyclists in the race. At the finish line Lion Bjarne nailed down first place in the 65 to 69 year old category. Overall, with 72 cyclists in this particular race, Lion Bjarne placed 4th overall. Not bad for the old geezer, eh?
